I research and write blogs on what’s happening in the EV-world.

We’ve talked a lot about electric pickup trucks that might come to the UK. But this one’s pretty set to hit the UK market later this year. Though, we’ve heard that one before

Jeep is gearing up to bring its legendary off-road legacy into the electric age with the introduction of the Jeep Recon EV. This all-electric SUV, inspired by the Wrangler, seeks to merge robust off-road prowess with cutting-edge EV performance and technology.

Set to debut in the UK in late 2026, the Jeep Recon EV is already set to become one of the most thrilling electric SUVs for those who crave adventure without carbon footprint.

Built for Off-Road Adventures

In contrast to numerous electric SUVs that prioritise city driving, the Jeep Recon is crafted with authentic off-road performance as a key feature. Jeep’s exclusive Selec-Terrain system allows drivers to choose from five different modes to handle all weather and road conditions with ease. The Recon will feature an electric version of this with modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand, and a specialised Rock mode.

Jeep plans to include elements like an electronic locking rear differential, underbody skid plates, 33-inch all-terrain tires, and sophisticated four-wheel-drive capabilities in the Recon.

Drawing significant inspiration from the Wrangler, it is also anticipated that removable roof panels and doors will be offered, allowing drivers to enjoy a genuine open-air off-road adventure.

Strong Performance Meets EV Power

Initial estimates indicate that the Recon may offer up to 250 miles of WLTP range (200-230 miles real world range), with a 0-62mph acceleration time of around 3.6 seconds.

It has a 5-80% charging time of 28 minutes, making it convenient for everyday commutes. The combination of powerful acceleration and instant torque control could make the Recon one of the most capable electric off-roaders available.

Rugged Exterior with Modern Technology

The Recon visually maintains Jeep’s bold and rugged design whilst factoring modern EV styling elements. It’s expected to feature Jeep’s signature grille styling, aggressive body cladding, high ground clearance, robust wheel arches, and aerodynamic improvements.

Inside, the Jeep Recon EV is expected to merge practicality with high-end technology. Drivers will likely encounter a sizable 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, making it the largest touchscreen in a Jeep vehicle!

The Recon also contains a 12.3-inch digital driver display and an 11-speaker Alpine premium sound system. Additionally, Jeep is expected to offer advanced driver assistance systems, connected navigation, and smartphone integration, making this SUV feel just as at home on mountain trails as it does on city streets.

Jeep’s Electric Future Begins

The Recon EV is a key element of Jeep’s broader initiative towards electrification, as the brand aims to update its line up while preserving its adventurous spirit.

For a long time, numerous drivers have wondered if electric vehicles are capable of tackling tough off-road terrains, but Jeep seems committed to demonstrating its capability. By merging established 4×4 knowledge with electric technology, the Recon has the potential to be a significant milestone for the off-road SUV segment.

The Jeep Avenger qualifies for the electric car grant, we’ll have to see if the Recon does too. But with UK prices expected to start around £70,000 – £75,000, it’s unlikely.

Could the Jeep Recon EV Be a Defender Rival?

As the electric SUV market grows more competitive, there are hardly any new models aimed at true off-road fans. The Jeep Recon EV has the potential to be a strong contender against vehicles such as the Mercedes G-Class EV and the Rivian R1S.

For those seeking adventure-ready performance combined with cutting-edge EV technology, the Jeep Recon could emerge as one of the most notable electric vehicle releases of 2026.

Final thoughts

The Jeep Recon EV marks an exciting new path for one of the most iconic off-road brands globally. Instead of just creating another electric SUV for city use, Jeep is determined to show that electric vehicles can still offer toughness, adventure, and character.
