aggreko salary sacrifice scheme - fleet evolution

Aggreko, the global specialist in mobile and modular energy solutions, is continuing its journey towards a greener, more flexible future by expanding its electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme, delivered in partnership with Fleet Evolution.

Launched in 2023, the scheme remains open to all 900 UK-based employees. It forms a key part of Aggreko’s commitment to sustainability and employee wellbeing, offering a practical and cost-effective route into EV driving.

With its global headquarters in Dumbarton, Glasgow, Aggreko is the world’s largest provider of temporary power. Operating in more than 80 countries with 195 service centres, the company reported over £1.78 billion in revenue in 2022.

A Scheme Built on Research and Trust

Before launching the scheme, Aggreko carried out a detailed review of the UK fleet and employee benefits market. After careful consideration, the company selected Tamworth-based Fleet Evolution to deliver the initiative, valuing their deep expertise and flexible approach.

“We selected Fleet Evolution because we felt they had been in this particular market the longest, because of the way they were structured and because we felt their team was definitely on our side. Another major factor was the 30-day no quibble return period for anyone leaving the scheme for whatever the reason,” said Richard Wallis, Head of International Benefits.

The decision reflected not only Aggreko’s commitment to sustainability but also its desire to offer accessible, tax-efficient benefits that work for every employee.

A Smarter Way to Reduce Emissions

Aggreko’s company fleet includes around 150 vehicles, primarily used by field-based staff such as engineers, project managers, and sales teams. The fleet is subject to a CO2 ceiling of 120g/km, and already around 70% of vehicles are hybrid or fully electric.

Looking ahead, Aggreko is shifting from traditional company cars to allowances that allow employees to enter the EV scheme.

“We plan to provide these staff with car allowances in lieu to allow them to switch to the salary sacrifice scheme, for which we have a maximum CO2 ceiling of 75g/km, so that over time there is more incentive to opt out of company cars and into the salary sacrifice scheme,” Wallis explained.

The scheme enables Aggreko to reduce fleet emissions while supporting individual choice. At the same time, it reinforces the company’s broader environmental strategy.

“The salary sacrifice model works very well for us, especially as Benefit-in-Kind tax rates are currently so beneficial, and it clearly helps us to meet our CO2 and corporate responsibility targets by having more EVs on the fleet. It also very closely aligns with our brand values of clean energy provision,” Wallis added.

Strong Take-Up from Day One

The scheme made an immediate impact across the business. Within the first 24 hours, 180 employees had signed up. By early 2025, more than 250 staff members had enrolled, including Wallis himself.

“There has been considerable interest in the scheme since we launched it with 180 employees signing up to the scheme on the first day and I myself have switched my car to an EV without any problems. We expect the scheme to grow and grow. For example, we have just communicated its existence to the staff of a new business we have just acquired, and we expect this to continue over time,” he said.

This early momentum has laid the foundation for long-term success, particularly as more Aggreko teams across the UK join the initiative.

AI-Powered Communication That Delivers

Aggreko didn’t just launch the scheme, they made sure employees understood it. Using AI, the company developed messaging tailored to staff in and around Ultra Low Emission Zones.

These communications broke down the financial and environmental benefits of driving electric. They also clarified what’s included in the scheme, helping employees compare it to traditional leasing or ownership options.

Highlights of the scheme include:

  • No deposit
  • Fixed monthly cost
  • Servicing, repairs, tax and insurance included
  • Access to market-leading EVs with corporate discounts
  • 30-day no-quibble return if needed

Real-World Confidence Through Experience

Fleet Evolution supported the rollout with hands-on expertise, including a long-distance EV demonstration to showcase the reliability of electric driving.

“We were able to demonstrate the effective range of an EV in the most practical way, by travelling up to Dumbarton in an EV, around 300 miles, with just a 12-minute stop,” said Andrew Leech, Fleet Evolution’s founder and Managing Director.

This real-world test helped build trust and broke down common concerns around EV range and charging infrastructure. Within the first month, 30 vehicle orders had been placed and interest has only grown since.
