The Cupra Tavascan is Cupra’s first all-electric SUV, but where does the name come from? It might sound unusual, but it’s actually named after the village of Tavascan in Catalonia, Spain. Since Cupra’s racing headquarters are based in Catalonia, the name is a nod to the brand’s roots.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get into the all-new, all-electric Cupra Tavascan SUV.
Performance, Range & Charging
The Cupra Tavascan is available in four trim levels: V1, V2 (both RWD), VZ1 and VZ2 (both AWD), giving drivers the choice between efficient rear-wheel drive and more powerful all-wheel drive performance.
The V1 and V2 models feature a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 282 bhp (210kW). They accelerate from 0-62 mph in around 6.8 seconds and offer an official WLTP range of up to 353 miles (280 miles real-world range), making them an excellent choice for both everyday driving and longer journeys. If performance is higher on your priority list, the VZ1 and VZ2 use a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 335 bhp (250kW). This cuts the 0-62 mph time to just 5.5 seconds while still offering an impressive WLTP range of up to 320 miles (255 miles real-world range).
Both variants are powered by a 77kWh usable battery and are capable of DC rapid charging at rates of up to 135kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in roughly 28 minutes when using a compatible rapid charger. Charging at home with an 11kW wallbox will take about 8 hours for a complete overnight charge.
As with any electric vehicle, the charging speeds and driving range can fluctuate based on battery temperature, weather conditions, charger output, and driving habits.
My Cupra App
You also gain access to the My Cupra app. All electric cars come with their own special app now; it’s pretty much the standard. It gives you greater access to your car and lets you control it from anywhere. Say goodbye to cold mornings spent de-icing your car; you can simply do it from the app while you’re snuggled up in bed. Save your range AND yourself from the cold!
5-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating
Safety is a key consideration when choosing your next car, and the Cupra Tavascan delivers on that front. Awarded a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating in 2024, it has been recognised for providing excellent protection for occupants and strong driver assistance technology. Whether you’re commuting, heading off on a family holiday or travelling for work, the Tavascan is designed to help keep you and your passengers safe.
In the thorough testing conducted by Euro NCAP, the Tavascan scored remarkably well in all major assessment areas. It achieved 89% for Adult Occupant Protection, 86% for Child Occupant Protection, 80% for Vulnerable Road Users, and 79% for Safety Assist. These scores highlight the SUV’s capability to offer outstanding protection during a collision while also assisting drivers in preventing accidents.
The Tavascan is fitted with a wide array of advanced safety features, either as standard or included in higher trim levels. Standard technologies include Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition and Emergency Assist, all working together to make every journey safer and more relaxing. Depending on the trim level, you’ll also benefit from features such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Intelligent Park Assist and a rear-view camera, making motorway driving and parking easier and giving you extra confidence behind the wheel when parking in tight spots.

Exterior Design: A True Showstopper
The first thing that catches your eye about the Cupra Tavascan is its unique design.
In contrast to many electric SUVs that focus more on practicality than aesthetics, the Tavascan has a remarkable road presence. Its illuminated Cupra badge, sculpted bonnet, sharp body contours, and coupe-like roofline contribute to its sporty look from every perspective.
At the front, the unique triangular Matrix LED headlights instantly mark it as a Cupra, while the glowing rear light bar offers a modern vibe at night. Large alloy wheels, wheel arches, and copper highlights enhance the performance-oriented design.
Despite its coupe-like shape, the Tavascan is still practical for daily family use, providing ample passenger space and a roomy boot. Wheel trims range from 19-inch alloys to eye-catching 21-inch designs on higher trims.
Available colours include:
- Tavascan Blue
