Could the new Dacia Spring you into the Electric Revolution?

Dacia, Renault’s budget brand, promises functionality without frills, similar to how Tesco compares to Jack’s. During these times of cost-of-living pressures, Dacia has found its niche by offering basic cars at prices that delight. Today, we’re looking at the Dacia Spring electric car.

The Appeal of Electric Cars

Electric cars are known for their performance, range, and equipment, but these benefits often come at a high cost, mainly due to the expensive batteries. So, can we ever see an affordable electric car?

Introducing the Dacia Spring

The Dacia Spring comes with a price tag of around £15,000. With a cheap off-peak tariff, running this car could cost as little as £20 a month. The Dacia Spring is highly efficient! Forget about a high list price, but also forget about vast space, great acceleration, or lots of extras.

Limitations

Based on the range, the Dacia Spring is not a road trip car, with both options offering around 140 miles on a single charge. Fast charging is also the slowest I have ever seen. The main difference between the two models is the slightly faster acceleration and a £1,000 price difference.

Design and Comfort

The car looks big, and the front seats are spacious, but it’s the same size as a VW Polo and only seats four. The rear seats are not comfortable or spacious, likened to the chairs in an A&E ward that pre-numb your sensitive regions.

Is It Right for You?

This car may not be aimed at you. It’s designed for someone who needs a reliable car and values function over luxury. For those with a daily commute of about 10 miles, it’s the perfect car.

A Different Kind of Car

The Dacia Spring is not exciting or fun, but it’s a reliable city car for those who don’t want to spend a fortune on motoring. With an expected price of just over £200 a month on the scheme, including everything, it’s a real game-changer, especially with its 140-mile range and decent front and boot space.

If you want more features, consider the MG4 or BYD Dolphin. However, if you need a solid city car, the Dacia Spring is an excellent way to step into the electric era and enjoy its low running costs.
