Selflessly Green New Year Resolutions That Are Easy to Keep!

It’s the 5th January as I’m writing this, which means that 25% of us have already broken those New Year resolutions! In fact, research shows that only 8% of us will stick our New Year resolutions for the whole year. It seems that we all need a push. Although, when so many resolutions mean giving things up, maybe we need to focus on ones that require no sacrifice? Or maybe just one… Here are our resolutions you could try out! These could potentially replace those you’ve already broken! Best of all not only will you win if you keep them, but the planet will too!

Step Away from Bottled Water!

You could fuel 250,000 cars with the oil used to manufacture plastic bottles. Ditch temporary plastic for your own reusable bottle (with a water filter system if you wanted)! You could save huge amounts of both money and pollution!

Cook from Scratch!

Are you missing restaurant food? Fresh, plentiful, and perhaps best of all, cooked for you? Well, good food is not a luxury, and eating out or ordering takeaway can put a strain on your wallet too. Good food is easily achieved with a basic knowledge of cooking, or even just following a recipe. Not only that, processed foods are a disaster for your waistline and the environment! Batch cooking and slow cookers make great hot meal prep simple, cost-effective, and yummy!

Join the Electric Revolution for Your Motoring!

With over half of our electricity being produced from renewables, it’s not only cost-effective to move to an electric car, but also a great gift for the environment. Plus, if you can persuade your employer to let you fund the car via a salary sacrifice scheme it works out cheaper than running a 5-year-old diesel car.

Avoid Fast Fashion

Fashion trends come and go quicker than Tesla’s speed! That cheap BooHoo dress may have been a bit of a bargain, for a week or so… We all know it won’t last more than a couple of wash cycles, from a style perspective if nothing else. Fast fashion may be a quick and cheap option but it is truly destroying the planet. If you’re good for cash, go for timeless classics! Pay a little more, get a little more; something that will stand the test of time as well as the party season…whenever that season restarts! Of course, if you’re low on the moola there are other ways of avoiding fast fashion. Try visiting charity shops or upcycling old clothes instead of chucking them out. This way, you can find some nice clothes, save a penny, give to charity, AND help out the environment, sweatshop workers, and all the rest!

Cut Out the Meat!

Have you watched “Game Changers” on Netflix? It really changed the game for a few of us at the office. The production of meat and dairy account for around 14.5% of global greenhouse has emissions. Switching to a vegetarian diet, vegan diet, or even just start trying out No Meat Monday it helps to reduce emissions overall. Check out this study on The Climate Impact of Eating Meat and Dairy for a really interesting insight.

So that’s it! That’s our New Year’s Resolutions for you to try out. To be honest, it doesn’t have to tick over to a new year to make some lifestyle changes, especially when it benefits the environment. If you’re not ready to go the full whack just yet, we encourage you to try out other things to start positively impacting the environment. Even if it’s just to start using that bag for life you’ve got sitting in the boot instead of buying a 5p plastic one each time. You could even just sign some petitions. It’s that simple to start making a difference.
