Geely is a Chinese multinational automotive company who operate several other automotive companies, including the Volvo Group from 2010. They launched their EV brand “Radar” along with the Radar RD6 electric pick-up in September 2022.
I know what you’re thinking: electric pick-up? Where’s the Rivian? And we hear you, but it’s just a waiting game now. Who will hit the UK market first, Radar or Rivian? They’re both expected to arrive in 2024, according to Parkers. The last we heard of the Rivian was their plans to open a gigafactory in the UK, but it’s totally up in the air now.
So, What is the Radar RD6?
So, as mentioned, the Radar RD6 is an electric pickup truck that sports a 0-62mph in under 6 seconds. Geely’s Radar RD6 was released to Chinese markets in September 2022 for a retail price of just $25,000 USD (around £22,000).
Is the Radar RD6 Nice to Drive?
As a pickup truck, you’d expect it to be capable of going off-road and paroling the great outdoors, and you’re in luck! The RD6 reportedly handles pretty well on bumpier terrains, but the ground clearance comes up a little short, so you can probably expect to hit a couple of bumps and rocks in the path if you are exploring. However, it retains the usual speed and grace of electric cars when on regular roads and motorways.
How Big is the Radar RD6?
- 5.26 metres long
- 1.9 metres wide
- 1.83 metres high
- 3.12 metres wheelbase
That’s a good-sized pickup! The size makes sense for the sheer amount of storage you get with this electric pickup.
- 1,200 litres capacity in the bed
- 70 litres capacity in the frunk (which even includes plug sockets!)
- 48 litres capacity under the rear seats
We can’t wait to welcome the Radar RD6 to the UK! Speculation suggests we will see it come to UK markets in the next year, so we’ll hopefully see it join our scheme soon – and maybe you will too!
Radar RD6 Range
The RD6 comes in 3 different battery sizes. With the 66kWh battery, you’re looking at getting around 215 miles of pure electric range, whereas, with the 86kWh battery, you’re looking at 280. However, if you opt for the 100kWh version, you’re treating yourself to a huge 380 miles of pure electric bliss.
It almost sounds too good to be true. Compare that to the Rivian R1T, you can get between 290 and 360 electric miles, which is great, but not if you look at the price comparison, costing between £68,000 and £75,000!
| Model | Battery Size | Estimated Electric Range (Miles) | Starting Price* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Radar RD6 | 66kWh | ~215 miles | From ~$25,000 (China launch price) |
| Radar RD6 | 86kWh | ~280 miles | TBC (UK pricing not confirmed) |
| Radar RD6 | 100kWh | ~380 miles | TBC (UK pricing not confirmed) |
| Rivian R1T | Large Battery Options | 290–360 miles | £68,000–£75,000 (Not available in the UK) |
Radar RD6 vs Riddara RD6: What’s the Difference?
The Geely Radar RD6 and the Riddara RD6 are the same vehicle, with “Riddara” being the brand name used for international markets (such as Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East), while “Radar” is the name used in China.
Aside from the branding, there are no major differences between the two. Both versions are monocoque, mid-size electric pickup trucks built on a passenger car-style platform rather than a traditional ladder-frame chassis. They are designed to deliver a more refined, SUV-like driving experience while still offering genuine utility credentials.
Key shared features include:
Fully electric powertrain
Up to 380 miles of electric range (depending on battery size)
3,000kg towing capacity
Practical storage including a rear bed and front trunk (frunk)
A focus on comfort, technology and everyday usability
So whether you see it referred to as the Radar RD6 in China or the Riddara RD6 internationally, you’re looking at the same all-electric pickup just marketed under a different brand name depending on the region.
FAQs
The Radar RD6 is expected to arrive in the UK market in 2024 or shortly after, although Geely has not confirmed an official launch date. Industry speculation suggests it could compete directly with other upcoming electric pickup trucks like the Rivian R1T.
The Radar RD6 launched in China at around $25,000 USD (approximately £22,000). However, UK pricing is expected to be higher once import costs, taxes, and VAT are included. Even so, it could still undercut rivals like the Rivian R1T, which starts from around £68,000.
The Radar RD6 comes with three battery options:
66kWh battery – up to 215 miles of range
86kWh battery – up to 280 miles of range
100kWh battery – up to 380 miles of range
The larger battery makes it one of the longest-range electric pickup trucks currently available in its price category.
While the Rivian R1T offers between 290 and 360 miles of range, it comes at a significantly higher price point (£68,000–£75,000). The Radar RD6 offers competitive range figures at a much lower starting price in its home market, potentially making it a more affordable electric pickup option. Check out our electric pickup comparison.
The Radar RD6 can accelerate from 0–62mph in under 6 seconds, which is impressive for a pickup truck. Like most electric vehicles, it delivers smooth and instant torque, making it quick off the line.
