Introduction

The Jaecoo 5, made by Chery, a Chinese automobile manufacturer, is sometimes referred to as the Jaecoo 5 EV or E5. It is a bold new entry in the compact SUV market, blending modern electric mobility with practical, family-focused design. Available alongside a petrol variant, the BEV offers a fully electric driving experience without compromising on comfort, tech or everyday usability. With thoughtful features like ‘Pet Mode’ and fun extras like ‘Camping Mode’, it’s clearly built for busy families, pet lovers, and weekend explorers alike.

Inside, you’ll find a spacious cabin, over 35 clever storage solutions, and a large 13.2-inch infotainment system that puts control at your fingertips.

Although it may be new to the market, with advanced driver assistance, a long warranty, and strong early demand through our salary sacrifice scheme, the Jaecoo 5 is already proving itself as a smart, versatile choice for UK drivers.

Key features

Pet Mode: This includes specific interior features such as a climate control system with pet hair filtration, to keep your furry friends safe! Durable, easy-to-clean fabric, to keep those scratches off your seats. The system sets a safe cabin temperature between 13 and 18 degrees Celsius. In order to ensure others know the pet is safe, a large message is displayed on the screen to say it is fine for pets and how long they are leaving them for.

Camping Mode: This feature enables the outdoor use of the stereo system and allows for karaoke sessions using a Bluetooth-connected microphone. When the car is stationary, it uses external speakers, typically located in the front bumper, to play music from sources like Apple CarPlay or the radio. The Jaecoo 5 also has a Vehicle-to-Load feature, which allows you to use the car’s battery to power external devices such as laptops, lights, or camping equipment.

Reliability and Safety

Although Euro NCAP hasn’t tested it yet, Jaecoo confirmed it is in the pipeline. The Jaecoo 7 was rated five stars when tested in 2025, a high bar to aim for. With 19 driver assistance systems, and considering the strong safety performance of its larger sibling, the Jaecoo 7, the 5 is aiming high. Both models get a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, including a slick and fast operating system. Also, the suspension does a good job of soaking up larger bumps and potholes. All major controls are held within this infotainment system, and the menu structure is simple.

However, the reliability is less certain due to the brand’s newness; despite this, the Jaecoo 5 E5 comes with a 7-year or 100,000-mile warranty (whichever comes first) for new vehicles, which is a positive sign. The car features a 540-degree camera system that includes underbody and chassis views as well as bright LED headlights on the Luxury trim. The Jaecoo 5 also features a full suite of airbags, lane assist and Isofix child-seat mountings on the outer rear seats.

Running Costs, Charging & Range

The standard Jaecoo 5 is powered by a 61.4kWh battery, offering a WLTP-rated range of 248 miles, though real-world figures are closer to 200 miles. According to EV Database, it supports 80kW rapid charging, which delivers a 10% to 80% charge in around 35 minutes using a DC public charger. It won’t hold 80kW continuously, but that’s the average power output across a typical rapid charge session.

For home charging, a standard 7.4kW wall box will charge the battery from empty in roughly 10 hours.

Performance-wise, the Jaecoo 5 accelerates from 0–62 mph in 7.7 seconds. Pricing starts at approximately £27,505 for the entry-level “Pure” trim and rises to £30,505 for the “Luxury” version, which adds features like a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats, a Sony sound system, and enhanced driver assistance tech.

When it comes to cost, Leasing.com lists the Jaecoo 5 at £357/month, but that’s without any extras included.  Through our salary sacrifice scheme, it’s just £361/month, and that covers everything: insurance, maintenance, breakdown cover, tyres, and more. For just a few pounds more, it’s fully inclusive; no wonder it was one of our most ordered cars last month!

Interior Space

The Jaecoo 5 has a standard boot space of 480 litres, which expands to 1,180 litres with the rear seats folded down. The cabin contains over 35 storage spaces. This can make the space practical for everyday use and is a perfect fit for families with smaller children. Storage options include large door bins and pockets, a wireless phone charger tray on higher trim levels, and a cooled storage box on top trim levels. The glovebox is on the small side, but honestly, when was the last time that really mattered?

Off Roading

The Jaecoo 5 EV looks like an off-roader with a more rugged design, but its capabilities are limited to lighter off-road conditions due to its front-wheel drive and its smaller body. However, the E5 is more suited for urban driving and families rather than serious off-road adventures.

Towing Capabilities

The Jaecoo E5 supports up to 75kg on the roof, perfect for a roof box or bikes. However, it has no towing capacity for braked or unbraked trailers.

It has features like camping lights and a charging port located on the front right side of the vehicle, charging the car’s high-voltage battery and powering external devices, making it suitable for light adventure loads.

Conclusion

The Jaecoo 5 brings together bold design, clever technology, and practical features in a well-priced electric SUV that’s clearly built with modern families in mind. From standout touches like Pet Mode and Camping Mode, to its impressive storage, long-range capabilities, and family-focused interior, it offers far more than just an affordable entry point into electric driving.
