Toyota has started its new battery-electric pick-up truck era, introducing the Toyota Hilux BEV. This model aims to merge zero tailpipe emissions with the robust functionality that businesses have come to expect from a Hilux.

What is the Toyota Hilux Electric?

The Toyota Hilux BEV is the battery-electric variant of Toyota’s famous pick-up truck. Rather than depending on a petrol or diesel engine, it operates using a battery and electric motors for a completely electric driving experience.

Toyota has crafted this vehicle to maintain the features that have made the Hilux a favourite among businesses, while also providing companies with an alternative method to lower the tailpipe emissions linked to their fleets.

What Is the Toyota Hilux Electric Range?

Toyota has introduced a 59.2kWh lithium-ion battery for the Hilux BEV, featuring dual electric motors at both the front and rear for permanent all-wheel drive. It features a WLTP driving range target of around 159 miles, and a real-world range of 140 miles. Real-world range will vary depending on factors including temperature, payload, towing, terrain and driving conditions.

Toyota claims the Hilux will manage 10–80% DC fast charging in around 30 minutes, with 10kW AC charging taking about six and a half hours on three-phase power back at base.

Keep in mind, a pick-up that travels 70 miles each day before returning to a depot with charging capabilities has very different needs compared to one that frequently undertakes long-distance trips in isolated regions. 

Is the Toyota Hilux Electric Good Off-Road?

The Toyota Hilux is a very capable off-road electric truck. Toyota aims for specifications that include a payload capacity of 715kg and a braked towing capacity of 1,700 kg. Additionally, the manufacturer has indicated a wading depth of 700mm, which helps preserve some of the off-road abilities that the Hilux is known for.

Its dedicated e‑Axles and Multi‑Terrain Select system help deliver confident performance on rough ground, ensuring you can take on challenging worksites and off-road routes, all without a traditional diesel powertrain.
