As the world transitions to sustainable mobility, Volvo has introduced its latest flagship electric SUV the Volvo EX90. Designed to offer luxury, performance, and of course Volvo is known for their amazing safety features, the EX90 is built to set new standards in the EV market. With long-range capabilities, advanced driver assistance systems, and a tech-forward interior, the EX90 is an ideal choice for those seeking a premium electric SUV.
In this guide, we’ll explore the Volvo EX90, covering performance, range, pricing and charging options.
The Volvo EX90: Redefining the Luxury Electric SUV
The Volvo EX90 is the brand’s first all-electric seven-seater SUV, offering a perfect blend of performance, safety, and sustainability. Could this be the perfect SUV for large families that can put the 7 seats to good use?
Key Features
Performance: Available in Twin Motor (402 hp) and Twin Motor Performance (510 hp) variants, delivering 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 112mph.
Range: Up to 373 miles (WLTP) on a full charge.
Charging: 250 kW DC fast charging, reaching 10-80% in 30 minutes.
Interior: Luxurious Nordic design, featuring sustainable materials which has a 70% lower carbon footprint than the current leather interior and a 15-inch touchscreen powered by Google.
Safety: Equipped with LiDAR technology and advanced driver assistance systems to ensure the highest level of safety. The EX90 can also detect if someone’s been left behind with their Occupant Detection, and will notify you when locking the car. The EX90 will even regulate the temperature if someone is left in the car.
At over 2,700kg, the EX90 is no lightweight, but its dual-motor system ensures strong acceleration and a smooth ride.
Best for: Families and professionals who want a high-performance, high-tech, and eco-friendly SUV.
Price
The Volvo EX90 starts at £96,255, with some variants exceeding £100,000. While expensive, it remains one of the few 7-seater electric SUVs offering Volvo’s renowned safety, technology, and premium features.
Design & Features
- Size & Seating: A true 7-seater, making it one of the few large luxury EVs on the market.
- Headlights: Classic Thor’s Hammer LED design.
- Wheels: 22” alloys – the only size available in the UK.
- Door Handles: Flush, pop-out handles on the outside – but inside? A strange window-button style handle instead of a traditional handle. Why fix what isn’t broken?
Inside, the cabin is undeniably premium, but it leans heavily on screen-based controls. This is where things get… complicated.

The Moany Parts: Tech Overload?
While the EX90 is spacious and refined, Volvo has taken inspiration from one of Tesla’s most criticised features – the touchscreen-controlled interface. Physical buttons? Almost non-existent. Air conditioning, boot release, even the glovebox, all controlled via the screen.
This shift to an all-digital setup might look futuristic, but in reality, it adds unnecessary steps to simple tasks. Need to tweak the climate settings while driving? Better be ready to tap through menus instead of quickly adjusting a dial.
And while Volvo does include a 9” driver display and a heads-up display, the smaller EX30 ditches them completely, forcing drivers to rely solely on the centre screen. At what point does minimalism just become inconvenient?
One thing we found cool, though… you can adjust the from seat positions with a seat adjustment knob. No more lugging around your seat!
Volvo claims tech should make driving easier. But when even opening the boot requires navigating a touchscreen, you have to wonder – has it actually done the opposite?
But maybe we are just being moany! What do you think?
If your looking at SUV’s maybe the Jeep Avenger is more your vibe!
Storage & Practicality
Despite the tech quirks, the Volvo EX90 does offer impressive practicality; with 310L boot space (including underfloor storage) with all seats up, expanding to 655L with the third row folded! And for added comfort, massage seats are included! So at least you can relax while figuring out the touchscreen controls.
Smart Charging and Innovative Charging Solutions
The Volvo EX90 is designed with intelligent charging technology, making it easy to charge at home or on the go. Check out the EX90’s charging capabilities:
Plug & Charge: Automatically starts charging when plugged into compatible stations.
Bi-Directional Charging: Can supply power back to the home or grid, creating an energy-efficient ecosystem. In the future, Volvo hopes that the EX90 can charge others cars using this feature. However, this is not yet supported.
Dynamic Charging Management: Optimises charging based on electricity rates and grid capacity.
Innovative Charging Solutions
Volvo Home Charging Station: A smart home wall box for fast and efficient charging; they’re also currently partnered up with Ohme for charge point support.
Public Charging Network: Access to thousands of DC fast-charging stations across Europe.
Volvo Charging Subscription: Exclusive pricing plans for frequent public charging users.
