Choosing an electric vehicle is no longer just about reducing emissions. Today’s drivers are looking for vehicles that offer the latest technology, outstanding comfort, and practicality that fits around everyday life. As electric vehicles have evolved, so have driver expectations, and our latest ordering data reflects that shift.
Looking at Fleet Evolution’s most ordered vehicles this month, it’s clear that employees are increasingly choosing premium electric models. Rather than opting for the lowest-cost option, many drivers are selecting vehicles that offer greater refinement, longer range, advanced technology and higher levels of comfort, all while remaining affordable through salary sacrifice.
Last month, our five most ordered vehicles were the Tesla Model Y, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Tesla Model 3, Polestar 4 and BMW iX3.
Why are premium EVs becoming more popular?
The rising popularity of premium electric vehicles can be narrowed down to several factors.
For many workers, selecting a company car involves more than just transportation from one place to another. Drivers seek a vehicle that is not only enjoyable to own but also comfortable to drive, featuring technology that simplifies every trip.
Contemporary premium electric vehicles provide just that. With large touchscreens, user-friendly infotainment systems, cutting-edge driver assistance features, impressive electric ranges, and luxurious interiors, these elements have become increasingly significant in the car-buying decision. As more manufacturers invest in electric technology, premium EVs are emerging as a viable choice for a broader spectrum of employees.
Additionally, salary sacrifice schemes have significantly contributed to making these vehicles more attainable.
Employers Introducing the Scheme
Employees Going Green
A wider choice with a £50,000 vehicle limit
Electric vehicles became subject to the Expensive Car Supplement from April 2025 if they had a list price over £40,000. However, the Government has since increased the threshold to £50,000 and applied the change retrospectively.
This means drivers can now choose from a wider range of higher-specification EVs, with longer ranges and more premium features, without worrying about paying the expensive car supplement.
Tesla Model Y
The Tesla Model Y remains our top vehicle choice this month, thanks to its combination of practicality, advanced technology, and remarkable efficiency. As one of the leading electric vehicles in the UK, it is a favoured option for families and business users alike.
Depending on the selected model, the Model Y provides an electric driving range of up to 250 real-world miles, making it ideal for both everyday commutes and longer trips. It supports DC rapid charging at rates of up to 250kW, enabling drivers to gain approximately 150 miles of range in about 15 minutes when utilising Tesla’s Supercharger network under optimal conditions.
Inside, the roomy cabin comfortably accommodates five adults and features a spacious 854-litre boot, which can expand to over 2,000 litres with the rear seats folded down. The sleek interior focuses on Tesla’s 15.4-inch touchscreen, while over-the-air software updates guarantee that new features and enhancements are available long after the vehicle has been delivered.
Mercedes-Benz GLC
The Mercedes-Benz GLC continues to be a favored option for employees seeking a luxury SUV that merges comfort with daily usability. Its elegant interior, comfortable seating, and premium materials make it especially attractive for those who spend extended hours driving.
The GLC boasts an electric real-world range of approximately 275 miles, enabling many routine trips to be accomplished solely on electric power before the petrol engine kicks in for added convenience on longer journeys. With rapid DC charging capabilities, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes, depending on the specific model.
Additionally, the GLC is equipped with Mercedes-Benz’s latest MBUX infotainment system, voice control, cutting-edge driver assistance features, and a roomy cabin, making it a practical and comfortable option for both professional and family use.
Tesla Model 3
The Tesla Model 3 remains one of the most recognisable electric vehicles globally, blending efficiency, performance, and state-of-the-art technology. Its stylish design and enjoyable driving experience make it a favoured choice for those looking to transition to electric.
The newest Long Range variant provides an impressive real-world range of up to 340 miles on a single charge. It features DC rapid charging capabilities of up to 250kW, enabling drivers to regain substantial range during brief charging breaks.
Inside, the minimalist cabin boasts a large central touchscreen that manages most vehicle functions, while regular wireless software updates bring new features and enhancements. Coupled with rapid acceleration, low operating costs, and Tesla’s extensive charging network, the Model 3 remains a fantastic all-around option through salary sacrifice.

Polestar 4
The Polestar 4 has rapidly emerged as one of the most thrilling newcomers in the premium electric vehicle sector. Merging Scandinavian aesthetics with cutting-edge technology, it presents a unique alternative to conventional premium SUVs.
The Long Range Single Motor variant offers an impressive real-world range of up to 260 miles on a full charge, and with DC rapid charging capabilities of up to 200kW, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions.
A notable highlight of the Polestar 4 is its rear camera system, which replaces the conventional rear window, allowing for a distinctive cabin layout and maximising space for rear passengers. With Google built-in, users enjoy effortless access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Play Store, while the use of sustainable interior materials underscores Polestar’s commitment to contemporary design and innovation.
BMW iX3
Completing our list of the top five is the BMW iX3, a high-end electric SUV that merges everyday usability with BMW’s ability to provide an enjoyable driving experience.
The iX3 boasts an electric driving range of up to 360 real-world miles, which is more than sufficient for most daily commutes and longer highway travels. It is equipped with DC rapid charging capabilities of up to 400kW, enabling the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in about 21 minutes, therefore minimising the need for charging breaks during extended trips.
Inside the iX3, you’ll find BMW’s latest infotainment system, high-quality materials, and a roomy interior that comfortably fits both passengers and their luggage. Additionally, drivers enjoy advanced safety features, adaptive driving technology, and the smooth ride quality that is characteristic of a BMW SUV, making it a fantastic choice for employees seeking comfort without sacrificing practicality.
Salary sacrifice makes premium electric vehicles more accessible
A common myth is that premium electric vehicles are financially draining. However, salary sacrifice can actually make them much more affordable than many drivers realise.
Since payments are deducted from gross salary before Income Tax and National Insurance, employees can enjoy significant tax savings. While Benefit-in-Kind tax still applies, electric vehicles are subject to much lower rates compared to petrol or diesel cars.
Additionally, many salary sacrifice schemes cover servicing, maintenance, tyres, and breakdown assistance in a single monthly payment. When you compare this to setting up a personal lease and paying for running costs separately, the overall value can often be quite competitive.
For numerous employees, this means that owning a premium electric vehicle could be more within reach than they initially thought.
What this tells us
Our most recent ordering data reveals that employees are placing greater emphasis on quality, comfort, and technology, in addition to affordability.
Although cost is still a significant factor, it is evident that drivers are evaluating the overall value a vehicle provides instead of completely opting for the lowest monthly payment. Salary sacrifice enables many employees to afford vehicles that might have previously appeared out of reach, turning premium electric cars into a viable choice for a larger audience. As electric vehicle technology advances and manufacturers broaden their model offerings, we expect this trend to persist.
